Bespoke Fitted Wardrobes in Bristol
Bespoke fitted wardrobes and made-to-measure storage for the rooms flatpack can't solve. TM Carpentry builds wardrobes into sloped ceilings, alcoves, under-stair voids and multi-wall runs, plus media walls that match. The point of going bespoke is the awkward stuff — if a standard system would work, you don't need us. Available across Bath, Bristol and Keynsham — see the areas covered for specific neighbourhoods.

About fitted wardrobes in Bristol
What fitted wardrobes typically look like in Bristol
Bristol fitted wardrobes typically work within Victorian terraces (BS3, BS6, BS7) and 1930s semis (BS9). Victorian alcoves either side of chimney breasts are the single most common Bristol wardrobe pattern, followed by eaves storage in the larger semis and full-wall media units in main living rooms. Most of Bristol falls under normal permitted-development rules, so the wardrobe itself rarely needs consent.
Honest note: The descriptions below are generalisations — what's typical or commonly found across Bristol's neighbourhoods. Every property is different, so Tom will always confirm what's actually there on the site visit before quoting.
Planning & permissions
The planning context in Bristol
Most of Bristol falls under normal permitted-development rules for fitted wardrobes — they're interior joinery, not development. The Clifton Conservation Area, Cotham Conservation Area, and Montpelier Conservation Area all carry Article 4(2) controls, which affect any exterior-facing work (visible venting on chimney stacks, exterior cable runs) but not the wardrobe itself. Listed buildings in BS8 and parts of BS6 / BS9 need Listed Building Consent for any structural alteration; we will flag what's needed on the site visit.
Common wardrobe patterns in Bristol
Common Bristol fitted wardrobe jobs: floor-to-ceiling alcove runs either side of Victorian chimney breasts, eaves storage in 1930s semi lofts, under-stair voids converted to coats / boots / utilities, full-wall media units with floating shelves and storage either side of a fireplace, walk-in wardrobe conversions in larger Victorian properties, and built-in study desks in smaller bedrooms. Most Bristol wardrobes are designed for the property's existing alcoves and chimney breasts rather than full-wall flatpack dimensions.

Our step by step process
Our step by step process
Every job follows the same six stages. Some are quicker, some are slower — but the order and what to expect at each point is fixed, so you're never wondering what's happening.
- 01
Measure and design
We come and measure the exact space, including any sloping ceilings or unusual angles. You tell us what goes inside — full-height hanging, double rails, drawers, shoe storage.
- 02
Material and finish
Choose from MDF painted, real wood veneer, melamine or a mix. We talk through the trade-offs of each at this stage, not after the order is placed.
- 03
Quote and schedule
Fixed-price quote with the lead time. Most wardrobe projects are made-to-measure off-site then installed in a day or two.
- 04
Installation
Frames fixed to the wall, doors and internals fitted, final adjustments. Most bedrooms are usable again the same evening.
